Arts-in-Medicine Educational Series for Doctors (Feb. 25 - Apr. 15)

Gain new knowledge, learn to apply the arts to your medical practice, and give yourself a creativity break in this 8 week workshop series!

AiMES for MDs is a virtual workshop series inviting healthcare professionals to experience musical performances and Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) discussions about visual art while considering their compelling uses in healthcare practice. Time-strapped practitioners are prone to staccato looking and soundbite hearing, making instantaneous assumptions about what they see or hear. Fostering visual and aural literacy provides clinicians with important communication and observation skills, builds resilience, and may reduce physician burnout.

--> Time Commitment = 8 one-hour sessions over 8 weeks. Participants must attend a minimum of 6 of the 8 sessions. Sessions take place on Thursdays at 12 pm EST from February 25 - April 15, 2021. <--

After participating in the eight-week workshop series, participants will understand Visual Thinking Strategies and its broad applications to their medical practice. They will also gain a greater appreciation for music and visual art as a means for addressing burnout and providing stress relief. Participants will develop their own observation and communication skills, build empathy by increasing their ability to consider multiple perspectives, and improve their diagnostic skills in the process.

Through unique lectures by medical and art experts, musical performances by Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO) musicians, and VTS discussions about works of art by Pucker Gallery artists and others, participants will walk away refreshed and excited to employ critical and creative thinking into their medical practice.*

Great use of academic/educational funds OR ask your department about covering the registration fee!
