“Where do healers find comfort? For some U.S. doctors and caregivers, the answer is in music. Jeffrey Brown went to Newton, Massachusetts, recently to see how medical professionals are regenerating their spirits -- and becoming better providers in the process.”
On September 18, PBS NewsHour featured a segment about the medical musicians around the country who turn to music for comfort and healing. Some Longwood Symphony musicians have been participating in the National Virtual Medical Orchestra, which brings together musicians from the healthcare field across the country to make virtual performances.
Highlighted in an interview with Jeffrey Brown, Dr. Michael Cho, LSO violin/viola, discusses his experience working with patients during the pandemic and how music keeps him resilient.
Dr. Lisa Wong, LSO violin/viola, shares the ways music and medicine go hand-in-hand, plus her efforts to provide healing throughout the pandemic for patients and healthcare providers with the Boston Hope Hospital Music project.
Also featured are some of LSO’s recent performances outside of local hospitals such as Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
