About the Guest Artists

Cambridge common Voices

Cambridge Common Voices is a community chorus established in partnership between Harvard College and the Threshold Program at Lesley University, a transition program for young adults with diverse learning challenges. This ensemble strives to create an inclusive musical space and practice, affirming individual voices, and explore innovative approaches to music-making, including elements of Universal Design for Learning and Empowering Song.

Cambridge Common Voices positions disability not as deficit, but as a facet of human diversity worthy of creative exploration and appreciation. Affirming the individual and collective funds of knowledge within its community, the ensemble aspires to frame disability as a resource of artistic ingenuity that holds the potential to broaden the concepts of choral music and revolutionize artistic praxis in conventional settings.

About the Composer

Hyo Eun (Heather) Ahn

Hyo Eun (Heather) Ahn is a composer whose work delves into the intersection of sound, vision, and everyday experience. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Ahn uncovers deeper meanings through sound, constructing new dimensions of time and space. Her creative process often bridges visual art and music, seeking to musicalize the visual and visualize the musical, resulting in innovative, multi-sensory compositions.

Ahn’s music has been broadcast on Korea Times (KR), KBS Radio (KR), and WMNF 88.5 FM (FL), and performed by renowned international ensembles including Ensemble Musikfabrik (DE), Mivos Quartet (USA), and Kueris Quartet (NL). Her works have also been featured at festivals such as The Cello Seminar (NY) and CAMPGround23 (FL).

Ahn is currently a DMA candidate in Music Composition at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she is also pursuing her MM in Music Theory Pedagogy. She holds an MM from the Peabody Institute and a BM from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea, having studied with Felipe Lara, Oscar Bettison, and Hanshin Lee.

An active educator, Ahn serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Composition at Shenandoah Conservatory. She also teaches theory as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at both the Peabody Institute and Johns Hopkins University, and leads early childhood music classes at Peabody Preparatory.

Since 2023, Ahn has interned with the Arts in Health department, primarily working at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In this role, she explores the intersection of art and healthcare, investigating the therapeutic potential of music in clinical environments and seeking meaningful ways to contribute to society through her artistry.
