International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility are sister organizations in a worldwide medical movement that has shared in two Nobel Peace Prizes – in 1985 and 2017 – for their efforts to address the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons. Both were founded in Boston by visionary leaders who believe that doctors have a moral and professional duty to prevent what they described as the growing risk of “sudden planetary death.” Ultimately, both organizations are dedicated to abolishing nuclear weapons, protecting the environment, and promoting peace as fundamental contributions to public health and wellbeing.
Global Oncology’s mission is to bring the best cancer care to underserved patients around the world. GO collaborates across geographic, professional and academic boarders to improve cancer care, research and education. GO is a volunteer community of physicians, scientists, designers, engineers, public health experts, policy makers, nurses, lawyers, students, and other professionals working in teams to help people throughout the world who are treating cancer and its related pain.
Partakers supports Massachusetts prison education by coordinating teams of volunteers who mentor women and men in prison as they attend the Boston University Prison Education Program.Through its College Behind Bars mentoring program, incarcerated people enhance skills critical to completing a college degree, and build trusting personal relationships. Both activities significantly increase their chances for success when they return to the community.
EqualHealth works with clinicians across the career continuum from medical and nursing students, to practitioners, master educators, and the full population of providers and leaders in health care in Haiti. EqualHealth collaborates with medical professionals in Haiti to expand provider capacity, strengthen educational opportunities and in turn improve care and teaching in healthcare in Haiti.
Bridges to Malawi is a small, secular Massachusetts based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the people of the Kasungu District of Malawi.
